interim presentation
This week provided the chance to present our ideas to the class in a 3 minute presentation. It was an opportunity to vocalise our progress in this paper and receive feedback from the class on aspects they approved of and aspects they though needed to be changed or improved. Below is the pdf attachment to my presentation:
analysis of 3 presentations
The feedback received from the class:
-strong idea which represented the ritual well
-mixed appreciation of my sketch abilities,
Class: impressed that I was able to create the shapes of the domes in sketchup.
Mercia: noticed that my early conceptual sketches showed dome shapes that were more abstract and not perfectly circle like the ones in the ketchup file. Advised that I didn't let sketchup limit my creative process.
-The class made the observation that the roof of the domes were open. I explained that I interpreted the space of more of a installation than a dwelling to be lived in. My intention is for the ritual to be experienced through its key elements and I don't associate the ritual with that particular aspect of permanence. The ritual is fluid and relies on flexibility, intuition, and perceverance etc.
-Overall class thought I had a lot of room to build on and strengthen my idea.

Christinas ritual documented the journey of her client each morning travelling via public transport to university. The 30 minute journey had many physical and emotional elements to it which Christina has chosen to show through the movement and interpretation of her space which features a range of mediums to help the user experience these in the order the client experiences them. Christina did a good job of explaining her idea relying on conceptual sketches to get her idea across. I think that she would benefit from digitising her concepts to get a better idea of sizing and environment within the space (something her ritual relies on heavily). This will also give her final work a more polished and complete look.
Megan Taylor:

Megans ritual documented her clients inability to finish a cup of tea. The client regularly made tea for themselves and would forget to finish it because they would get distracted only remembering they had made it when it was to late (cold). Megan's proposed idea was to create a space that was divided by levels and had a lift that would carry the tea to each level dependant on where the user was. I liked that she had decided to make the space circular as it directed the user to the centre of the room which was where the tea was! The shape of the structure was also cylindrical which I thought referenced the tea even if it was unintentional. Megan's presentation was easy to understand, aided by digital sketches which were clear and interpretable. I think she could improve her lift idea which didn't quite seem resolved.
Etanah Fuimaono-Lalau:

Etanah despite declaring her nervousness presented a very clear ritual vocally to the class. The ritual involved the congrigation of the client and flatmates each morning where the client would consume coffee with her pears in a homely atmosphere. Her presentation used good precedents and pencil concept sketches to explain the idea for her proposed design but again, will definitely benefit from being a bit more digitised. Etanah was struggling to visualise her final idea so i think she might need to simplify it a little more. She doesn't need to necessarily focus on the coffee aspect of the ritual, perhaps just concentrating on the report between the flatmates or the feeling of the room could help her do this.

Better exploration of light qualities
Image below investigates how light may work in the space through a conceptual sketch over printed screenshot. Easy way of demonstrating this.
