While investigating the light qualities of the structure inside I realised that the proposed roof didn't let in enough light. I was also struggling to visualize how the sound devices connected into the roof area. Below is my proposed final idea. The top circle of each cylinder is open for that initial interaction of sound between the spaces and directing each other to the sound devices. The squares around the circle will have glass and have inserts for the tubular devices to feed through into the chambers. Shown below:

the design
Each chamber is the same size, but the stairwells and sound devices will be placed differently. I am keeping the chambers identical in structure as I want equal sound to be amplified outwards and an area that the two occupants can reference when talking to each other.
material
The proposed structure will be made out of some sort of concrete, plaster material. This design is not so much about the aesthetic or street appeal, its about the function and sense of connection the occupants feel to each other. As the house is referencing the the original structure of the workers cottage there will be the weatherboard material there and the glass of the windows in the new structure. For the staircases I have chosen to use a floorboard to reference the floorboards of the original structure, but this can also be a familiar material used in most houses that most would associate with a home.
Elevation
Shows how the design might look if it was placed in the proposed site from the street.

Starting to add in stairs into interior:

More exploration of final look. Need to insert listening devices
sectional drawings
Plan
Plan of spaces, demonstrates differences between each space
While trying to figure out the best way to change my floor plan images for the final I tried to physically draw it on paper. I really liked the way that it looks on paper but once scanned into the computer it doesnt look as good. For that reason I am not using it but thought it needed documenting.

Final Presentation to class
Presentation of ideas below show resolved concepts ready for critique of class. Could change slightly with this critique.
Critique of final ideas
The class responded well to my presentation. They felt that the ritual was well demonstrated in an interesting and creative interpretation of the spaces design.
Mitch appreciated the fact that I made it clear I was not focused on creating a space that had purposeless aesthetic. The plain, concrete white walls are suited for their purpose and experience of the space.
One aspect of my images that I need to refine are the images of the spaces floor plan. The representation of scale in one particular image is incorrect and implies that the structure is much larger than it really is.
Overall I think that with more time to resolve the images after this busy time of hand in week, I will be able to produce final images that are refined and demonstrate the ritual as best as possible.
